Meet Coach Toni 22 January 2017
Sunday 22 January 2017 'Meet Coach Toni'

toniMy name is Toni Angelina Paruso I was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. I have the world’s most awesome and loving family; I am a daughter to Pat and Polly Paruso and a sister to Kent, Rosemary, Wendy, Robert, Jenny and John. I spent most of my younger years involved in swimming. I was blessed from an early age to have had incredible coaches, mentors and teachers that all played a large part in my eventual acceptance at the U.S Naval Academy. I attended the U.S Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland from July of 2009 until May of 2013. While at the academy I had a successful swimming career to include multiple Conference titles, Nationals Championships and most notably I was fortunate enough to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials. In May of 2013 I commissioned into the United States Marine Corps and attended The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia. Upon completion of the Basic School I was designated the Military Occupational Specialty of Aircraft Maintenance and attended the follow-on school at NAS Whiting Field Milton, Florida. I received orders to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina in December of 2014. After a year and a half hiatus of having been ‘retired from swimming’ I knew it was time to get back into the gym. I googled “CrossFit” and CrossFit Burn was the first thing that came up, I called Steve and asked if I could come in for the free trial. He said of course, he said John would be coaching 0530 class and he would be more than happy to assist me. I can still remember the first work out I did. Power Cleans (I maxed out at 135) and a combination of Goblet Squats and Pull Ups (John had to replace my ambitious 35lb Kettle Bell with a 16lb one) and having no idea what a kipping pull up was failed after about 10 strict ones. I quickly fell in love with CrossFit Burn because of their commitment to quality over quantity, their focus on the individuals personal progress and their ability to make the gym feel like home. A year and a half later (having now mastered pullups, goblet squats and power cleans) I decided to take my CrossFit to the next level and get my Level 1 Certification, I have not looked back since. The members and the community at CrossFit Burn is unparalleled, and our success both in competition and in life is a testimony to the Coaches and Steve Jasset the owner. So come on in, we can’t wait to meet you.
